The implementation of the upgrade to the latest version of the coding system
used for many fields on the NCIS (ICECI) is now underway.
The rollout of these new codes to the NCIS system means that there
will be a short period where we will not be uploading new data to the
NCIS for certain states.
For example, as from Monday 23 June, no new uploads are being received from Tasmania,
ACT, NT or QLD.
From Tuesday the 7th August, no new uploads will be received from SA.
NSW and Victoria will continue to upload data to the NCIS as per usual
during this period, as their rollout is scheduled last.
The suspension of data uploads is to accommodate for the new code sets being
rolled out to the local systems used by the Coroners Courts.
While all states are having their local systems updated, we will also be
updating the codes on the NCIS database and web interface, and mapping the
old codes to their corresponding new codes. This will be done offline, so
users will still be able to access the existing database with the old code
sets while this process is occurring. We expect that by the end of August, we
should be ready to release the NCIS database with its new code sets for use by all
users. At this time we will also do a full upload of all data from local systems
to ensure NCIS data is back in sequence with local system information.
In summary, the ICECI upgrade may affect you in the following ways:
- No new data uploads from most states for around 1 month (from this week)
- Ultimate change to codesets which you may use to regularly
identify cases of interest (you may need to redesign any saved
queries once the new codesets come into force)
We believe the benefits of this new codeset upgrade will outweigh any short
term inconvenience and we ask for your patience during this time. The important
thing to note is that the NCIS system via the web will continue to be available
throughout this process….it will just not be constantly updated as would
normally occur.
